Wallasey Music Centre

A list of all our current ensembles and their rehearsal times is outlined below. The principle aim of the Centre is to act as a feed to other more mature groups within Wirral, some of which tour in Europe. The Centre therefore offers an opportunity to acquire skill, develop talent and experience the thrill of public performances.

Because we are the 'entry' point to a lifetime of music making, we welcome children from any age although the majority of the students are over age 10. Some will not have taken their first music exams, but whilst attending the Centre they will be encourged to grow and provide evidence of this personal growth, by sitting musical exams (mainly practical exams) so that when they are ready to leave the Centre, they will have progressed to grade 4 or higher.

Some of our students have returned to the Centre to take up a different instrument, even though they may have progressed to the highest grades in other groups on their instrument of first choice.

The most common instruments to be seen at the Centre are violin, clarinet, saxophone, flute, and trumpet. But you will also see cello, percussion, key board, trombone, cornet and euphonium. We are short of oboe, double bass and french horn, so any musicians with an interest in these instruments would be particularly welcome!

There is also a theory group in which students of all levels of ability may receive tuition on musical theory. Many students have found this particularly helpful when working towards their first theory exam at grade 5.

The Wallasey Music Centre Chorale was conceived a few years ago as a parents choir, but has since then evolved. The chorale is open to any ladies who have a love for singing - there is no requirement for prior experience.
